The Utah Aids Foundation is sponsoring a dinner event to honor the pioneers of HIV treatment in Utah. The gala will be held on March 29 at 6 p.m. in the Salt Lake City Hilton.

The honorees include a variety of medical professionals and politicians. The Sisters of the Holy Cross was the first hospital to admit and treat AIDS patients in Salt Lake City. Dr. Kristen Ries was the first clinician to treat AIDS patients in Utah. Dr. James Mason was the former head of the Center for Disease Control and allowed Ryan White to attend school. And Sen. Orrin Hatch Co-sponsored the Ryan White Care Act with Senator Ted Kennedy. This was the first federally funded program to provide HIV and AIDS care and treatment.

The event is being sponsored by Zions Bank and the Mormon Church.
