Home to Sundance, world-class skiing and some of the best shopping in the state, Park City is always a gorgeous getaway for any Utah queer. But on one weekend each summer, the town turns a little extra, well, queer, as QSaltLake sponsors the Gay Day at the Park Silly Market on Aug. 14.

The market is already a Bastian for artists, musicians and societal outcasts. Held each summer Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Park City Main Street, it’s a 100 percent green market with all waste being recycled. This green and hipster heaven is a welcome home to the Utah queer community.

On Aug. 14, QSaltLake will host the second annual Miss Park Silly drag contest and have a featured presentation from the QSaltLake chef and restaurant review, Drew Ellsworth. This year’s Miss Park Silly contest will be hosted by last year’s winner, Chevy Suburban, also known as Stephen Bolinder, and Miss Vega Starr, also known as Jared Peterson, from noon to 1 p.m. Contestants will have to strut their stuff on the main stage in front of queer and straight alike, looking for the audience applause and all the attention a drag queen needs.

The cooking demonstration was a huge hit last summer and master chef Drew Ellsworth will share his culinary craft with the crowds from 11:30 a.m. to noon.

All the activities are free and there’s something for everyone. Look for arts and crafts, performance art, local produce, gourmet food, live music, a beer garden, a Bloody Mary bar and much more. For more information, go to tinyurl.com/pinkparkcity.
