Q Spot: DJ Lishus shares inspiration
The sexy and delicious DJ Lishus burst onto Utah’s gay club scene last year and has brought a high-energy sound to some of the best clubs in the state. Although he’s straight, he’s a strong ally and can be seen at gay and straight clubs alike. We chatted with him about some of his favorite DJs and how he got his name. We also enticed him to share his super-secret set list from a recent performance at Club JAM. DJ Lishus will also be opening for touring DJ Dillon Fancis June 22 at the Infinity Event Center, 26 E. 600 South.
How did you get your name?
I got my name as a joke. I never intended to be a DJ in the first place, so when I landed my first gig at a local bar, all of my close friends came out to support me. And as a type of joke, or with supportive humor, they all showed up wearing matching tank-tops that said “DJ LISHUS.”
Who are your music idols?
My greatest inspirations are Fedde Le Grand, Kaskade, Martin Solveig and Calvin Harris.
You perform at gay clubs frequently, do you identify as gay or bisexual?
I am straight, but I love the gay community!
What’s your guilty pleasure music? (Do you secretly listen to Hillary Duff or Lindsay Lohan?)
I think my guilty pleasure music would consist of Skrillex and Rusko.
Where can we catch you next?
I’ll be at Club One and Club JAM.
