Everybody’s favorite gay Asian uncle is coming to Utah for the Salt Lake Comic Con FanXperience pre-event.
George Takei, the Helmsman of Star Trek’s USS Enterprise will help Salt Lake fans boldly go where no man has gone before. Takei played Hikaru Sulu in the Star Trek TV series, in the first six Star Trek feature films and in an episode of Star Trek: Voyager. He is now the king of Facebook with almost 6 million fans.
George Takei is also the subject of a film picked to be an Official Selection at the 2014 Sundance Film Festival, titled To Be Takei:
Over seven decades, actor and activist George Takei boldly journeyed from a WWII internment camp, to the helm of the starship Enterprise, to the daily news feeds of five million Facebook fans. Join George and his husband Brad on this star’s playful and profound trek for life, liberty, and love.
Takei is also the author of three books: Oh Myyy!: There Goes The Internet, To the Stars: The Autobiography of George Takei, Star Trek’s Mr. Sulu, and Lions and Tigers and Bears (The Internet Strikes Back) (Life, the Internet and Everything)
“We’re thrilled to have George Takei join us at Salt Lake Comic Con FanX,” said Dan Farr, Comic Con Show Producer. “George is legendary for his role as Hikaru Sulu in Star Trek and his popularity amongst fans has skyrocketed over the years now reaching over 60 million people on Facebook every week. We’re sure he’ll be a fan favorite and a huge hit in January.”
In anticipation of FanX on April 17–19, 2014, Salt Lake Comic Con organizers are announcing the first two pre-FanX events. The first is a costume contest on December 30, 2013 at EVE Salt Lake City 2013 (EVE SLC).
Takei will be at the pre-event on January 17, which fans must have a FanX ticket to attend.
